Vertical pump drives and top-entry vessel agitators face two simultaneous installation challenges: the gearbox must output vertically (downward onto the pump or agitator shaft), and the shaft connection must be coupling-free for compactness and hygiene. The WPWKV universal hollow shaft vertical flange-mount worm gear reducer solves both by combining the H7 hollow bore of the WPWK series with the vertical flange mounting configuration of the WPWV platform — allowing the pump or agitator shaft to slide directly into the downward-facing bore without any coupling hardware.

The WPWV has a solid vertical output shaft. The WPWKV has a hollow bore in the same vertical flange-mount configuration — allowing coupling-free direct engagement of the pump or agitator shaft through the bore rather than via a coupling to a solid shaft. Choose WPWV when a standard solid-shaft coupling connection is acceptable; choose WPWKV for coupling-free hollow bore direct shaft engagement.
How does the pump shaft engage with the WPWKV bore?
The pump shaft is ground to h6/js6 tolerance to match the H7 bore. With anti-gall grease applied, the shaft slides up into the bore from below; the keyway locks rotational engagement; a set screw provides axial retention. The entire connection takes approximately 10 minutes — no coupling alignment, no coupling hub, no torque arm.
What bore sizes are available and what pump shafts do they cover?
Standard bore diameters range from 16 mm (size 40, small agricultural pump drives) to 110 mm (size 250, large industrial pump drives), covering virtually all standard pump shaft diameters. Does the WPWKV need special lubrication for vertical service?
Yes — the WPWKV is configured with oil ports for correct fill in the vertical position. Every WPWKV is supplied with a vertical oil fill instruction sheet specifying the correct port and level. Do NOT use horizontal oil fill level instructions for the WPWKV — this results in inadequate gear mesh lubrication.
Can the WPWKV be used for food-contact vessel agitator drives?
Yes — on request, we factory-fill with NSF H1 registered food-grade gear oil for food-contact compliance. For hygienic machine requirements, also consider requesting: (1) epoxy coating on the external housing and (2) stainless steel external hardware.
