WPEO Vertical Mount Double Speed Worm Gear Reducer — Ultra-High Ratio Multi-Direction Installation for Port, Construction & Process Equipment
Combining the extreme speed reduction capability of a two-stage worm drive (ratios 1/200 to 1/900) with the installation flexibility of up to six mounting orientations (positions A–F including full vertical), the WPEO vertical mount double speed worm gear reducer is engineered for the most demanding space-constrained, high-ratio drive applications. When a harbour crane needs a 1/600 slewing drive that must mount at an angle, or a construction winch requires 1/800 reduction in a vertical shaft housing, the WPEO provides the solution where no single-stage product can reach.
The WPEO two-stage housing incorporates multi-face oil-fill ports ensuring correct lubrication regardless of mounting angle — a critical design detail absent in many competitor products that offer multi-orientation options without addressing the oil level consequences. Available in 9 size groups, ratios 1/200–1/900. Про Ever-power | Request a Layout Consultation

Product Structure — Two-Stage Multi-Direction Housing

The WPEO elongated two-stage housing uses the same two-worm-pair cascade as the WPEA, but the housing body incorporates multi-face oil-fill plugs, reinforced output shaft bearings for combined axial/radial loads in non-horizontal configurations, and mounting face preparations for multiple bolt patterns. This allows the same unit to serve horizontal, inclined, and vertical drive applications across a wide range of heavy industrial machinery types.

✅ Key Features & Benefits
Extreme Ratios + Multi-Orientation — Unique Combination
The WPEO uniquely combines two-stage reduction (1/200–1/900) with multi-direction mounting capability. No single-stage product can achieve these ratios; few two-stage products can be mounted at non-horizontal angles with confidence. The WPEO delivers both, making it the go-to solution for port machinery, construction hoists, and inclined mine drives. Keywords: vertical mount double speed worm gearbox, multi-direction two-stage reducer.
Multi-Face Oil System for Non-Standard Orientations
The WPEO housing has oil-fill and drain plugs on multiple faces, ensuring both gear stages maintain correct oil immersion regardless of mounting angle. A critical detail — and one that distinguishes a properly engineered multi-orientation two-stage unit from products that simply bolt at any angle without addressing lubrication consequences.
Strong Self-Locking at High Combined Ratios
At combined ratios of 1/400 and above, the WPEO provides robust self-locking behaviour that resists back-driving under static load. In vertical mounting configurations (crane slewing drives, hoist auxiliaries), this passive load-holding function is an important secondary safety feature alongside any dedicated mechanical brake.
Reinforced Bearings for Vertical Load Vectors
The WPEO output shaft bearing arrangement is sized for the combined axial and radial loads specific to vertical and inclined mounting. This is not a standard horizontal gearbox rotated arbitrarily — the bearing selection reflects the actual load vectors in each supported mounting configuration.
Two-Stage Precision for Accurate Slow-Speed Positioning
Despite the extreme reduction ratios, both worm pairs are ground to ISO 1328 Grade 7 tolerances, providing the smooth, consistent output speed essential for crane slewing, positioning tables, and other applications where jerky or non-uniform output motion would cause process problems.
Full 9-Size Range for Every Application Scale
Nine two-stage size groups (40-70 through 155-250 mm) cover output torques from approximately 250 Nm up to 6,050 Nm at 1500 r/min input — spanning light-duty gate mechanisms to very heavy crane and winch auxiliary drives within a single standardised two-stage product family.
Industry Applications
The WPEO is specified wherever extreme reduction ratios must be achieved in a non-standard mounting orientation:
Port & Harbour CranesShip loader slewing drives, quay crane luffing drives, and harbour crane slewing mechanisms requiring 1/400–1/900 ratio with vertical or inclined mounting in the crane structure.
Mining Hoists & Inclined ConveyorsUnderground mine inclined conveyor head drives, shaft hoist slow drives, and inclined skip hoist auxiliary drives where both extreme ratio and inclined mounting are required simultaneously.
Construction EquipmentTower crane slewing ring auxiliary drives, passenger hoist safety drives, and scaffolding material hoist mechanisms requiring compact two-stage ratio reduction at non-standard mounting angles.
Marine & Offshore EquipmentOffshore platform deck crane auxiliaries, ship hatch cover vertical drives, and offshore winch slow drives where compact high-ratio gearboxes must fit within constrained deck and superstructure spaces.
Water Treatment & EnvironmentLarge clarifier and sedimentation tank slow-rotation drives, vertical rotating drum screen drives, and wastewater treatment aerator drives requiring very low RPM from a vertical drive arrangement.
Heavy Process EquipmentCement kiln trunnion drives, heavy rotating trommel drum drives, and large rotary cooler drives where the WPEO’s extreme ratio accommodates the very slow controlled rotation required by the process.
ð Quality Control & Certification

â Frequently Asked Questions
What mounting orientations does the WPEO support?
The WPEO supports up to six shaft-direction configurations (AâF), including horizontal foot-mount, vertical with output shaft upward or downward, and intermediate inclined angles. This is a wider range than the single-stage WPO, because the longer two-stage housing provides more mounting surface options. Contact us with your required mounting angle and we will specify the correct oil-fill configuration.
Does the WPEO require special lubrication when mounted vertically?
Yes â the correct oil fill level must be established for your specific mounting orientation. The WPEO housing has oil-fill and drain plugs on multiple faces for exactly this reason. Every WPEO unit is supplied with a mounting-position-specific oil-fill instruction sheet. Failure to adjust the oil level for non-horizontal mounting can result in inadequate lubrication of one or both worm gear stages.
What is the maximum self-locking reliability of the WPEO at high combined ratios?
At combined ratios of 1/400 and above, the WPEO provides strong self-locking behaviour under static conditions. However, as with all worm gear self-locking, this cannot be guaranteed under dynamic conditions (vibration, shock loads) or with synthetic lubricants which reduce the worm lead angle friction coefficient. For safety-critical vertical load holding, always incorporate a dedicated mechanical brake as the primary safety device.
How does the WPEO differ from the WPEA in terms of dimensions?
The WPEO uses the same two-stage worm gear internals as the WPEA but has a wider housing body to accommodate additional mounting face preparations, reinforced output bearings, and multi-face oil ports. The length (LL) and base width (A, B) are similar, but the overall height and some lateral dimensions differ. Refer to the WPEO specification table â do not use WPEA dimensions for WPEO installation planning.
Can I use the WPEO for continuous 24/7 operation in a vertical orientation?
Yes, provided adequate lubrication is maintained. The WPEO’s reinforced output shaft bearings handle vertical load vectors, and the multi-face oil system ensures correct oil immersion in vertical mounting. For continuous 24/7 duty in vertical orientation, we recommend upgrading from ISO VG 320 mineral oil to synthetic PG ISO VG 460 â the lower friction coefficient of PG oil reduces heat generation and extends drain intervals significantly.
