EP’ POWERFUL Worm Gear Systems
A worm is configured similarly to a machine screw, but with teeth designed to mesh with one’s teeth of a worm wheel. These tiny precision gears may have one or multiple threads (named begins). With each revolution, a single-start worm will approach the connected worm wheel by one tooth; worms with multiple starts off will move the mating worm gear a corresponding number of teeth with each revolution. (electronic.g., a 2-start worm will move the worm wheel two the teeth per revolution.)

Standard worm gear worm wheels feature straight, helical-cut teeth and provide only 1 point of connection with the worm. EP offers “throated” worm wheels with curved, helical-cut pearly whites whose curves match the radius of the worm itself. Throated worm wheels provide a much greater contact area, which vastly increases load potential and longevity.
