WPWKO Universal Hollow Shaft Worm Gear Reducer — Coupling-Free Direct Shaft Mount with Up to Six Orientations for Port, Crane & Process Drives
Port crane drum drives, inclined mine conveyor head drives, and vertical process agitators often share a compound requirement: the gearbox output must connect directly to the driven shaft without a coupling (for compactness and maintenance simplicity), AND the gearbox must be mounted at a non-horizontal angle dictated by the machine structure. The WPWKO universal hollow shaft worm gear reducer addresses both requirements simultaneously by combining the H7 hollow bore coupling-free output of the WPWK series with the multi-direction mounting capability (up to 6 positions) of the WPWO platform.
Hollow bore diameters from 16 mm (size 40) to 110 mm (size 250), ratios 1/5–1/60, 12 size groups, up to six mounting orientations with multi-face oil ports. O Ever-power | Request a Bore Size Consultation

✅ Key Features & Benefits
Hollow Bore + Multi-Direction Mount — No Other WPW Product Combines Both
The WPWKO uniquely combines H7 hollow bore coupling-free output with multi-direction mounting including full vertical. WPWK has hollow bore but limited orientations; WPWO has multi-direction but solid shaft. WPWKO delivers both — coupling-free direct shaft engagement at any supported mounting angle. Keywords: hollow shaft multi-direction universal worm reducer, coupling-free vertical worm gearbox.
Correct Oil Lubrication at Every Orientation
The hollow bore output is positioned at the same housing face in all orientations, but the oil port system is configured to maintain correct gear mesh and bearing lubrication regardless of mounting angle. Every WPWKO is shipped with a position-specific oil fill instruction sheet for all supported orientations.
Self-Locking in Vertical Hollow Bore Applications
At ratios ≥1/30, the WPWKO self-locks in all orientations including vertical — preventing coupled shaft back-drive under gravity when the motor stops. For vertical pump, agitator, and crane drum hollow shaft applications, this passive safety feature is particularly valuable.
H7 Precision Bore — No Field Reaming
The hollow bore is ground to H7 tolerance in our facility. Driven shafts ground to h6/js6 mate directly without field reaming — important for crane and port machinery installations where on-site machining is impractical.
Compact vs Right-Angle Adapter + Hollow Coupling
Using WPWKO at a non-standard angle avoids a right-angle adapter (to redirect shaft) PLUS a hollow shaft coupling (to connect to driven shaft). The WPWKO combines both functions in one housing, saving weight, height, and mechanical complexity in crane and elevated machine structures.
Full 12-Size Range — 16 to 110 mm Bore
Twelve sizes covering bore diameters from 16 mm (small crane auxiliary) to 110 mm (large mine hoist drum shaft) and output torques up to 2,371 Nm provide the complete range of hollow shaft multi-direction drive requirements.
Industry Applications
WPWKO is specified wherever hollow bore coupling-free output must be combined with multi-direction mounting flexibility:
Port & Crane Hollow Shaft DrivesShip loader slewing drum drives, harbour crane hoist drum drives, and quay crane auxiliary drives where hollow shaft coupling-free mounting on the drum shaft AND vertical or inclined mounting angle are both required.
Mine Hoist & Inclined Conveyor Hollow DrivesUnderground mine hoist drum hollow shaft drives and inclined mine conveyor head drum drives where hollow shaft direct engagement AND non-horizontal mounting are simultaneously required.
Vertical Agitator & Pump Hollow DrivesTop-entry vessel agitator hollow shaft drives and vertical pump shaft drives where coupling-free direct bore engagement AND vertical mounting must both be specified.
Elevated Machine StructuresElevated conveyor head drives, tiered production line direct shaft drives, and overhead machine drives where hollow shaft mounting AND non-standard mounting angles are both design requirements.
Marine & Offshore Hollow Shaft DrivesMarine winch drum hollow shaft drives, offshore platform deck machinery drives, and marine hatch cover mechanism drives requiring hollow bore direct engagement in vertical or inclined offshore structural configurations.
Heavy Process EquipmentRotary drum hollow shaft drives, large trommel screen direct shaft drives, and large dryer drum hollow shaft drives where both hollow bore direct engagement and varied mounting angles are needed.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between WPWKO and WPWK?
The WPWK has an H7 hollow bore with standard mounting positions (up to 3 for hollow shaft variants). The WPWKO extends this to up to 6 mounting orientations including full vertical and steep incline, with reinforced output bearings and multi-face oil ports for correct lubrication at each position. Choose WPWK when standard horizontal/low-incline service is adequate; choose WPWKO when vertical or steep-incline hollow shaft mounting is required.
Does the WPWKO oil system work correctly in the vertical hollow shaft position?
Yes — the WPWKO multi-face oil port system is specifically designed to maintain correct gear mesh and bearing lubrication in vertical service with the hollow bore. The correct fill port and level for the vertical position is documented in the position-specific oil fill instruction sheet supplied with every unit. Do not use horizontal oil level instructions for vertical installations.
What is the largest hollow bore diameter available in WPWKO?
The largest standard bore is 110 mm for size 250. For size 200, the standard bore is 85 mm. Custom bore diameters for non-standard crane drum or drive shaft sizes are available for OEM orders — contact us with your required bore diameter and shaft tolerance for availability and lead time.
Can the WPWKO be used for continuous vertical hollow shaft service (24/7)?
Yes — the WPWKO reinforced output shaft bearings are selected for continuous vertical service loads. For 24/7 heavy duty in vertical orientation at elevated temperatures, we recommend synthetic PG ISO VG 460 oil for better thermal stability and extended drain intervals. Contact us for a duty cycle assessment for your specific vertical service requirements.
What is the maximum output torque of the WPWKO?
At 1500 r/min input, size 250 at ratio 1/60 delivers approximately 2,371 Nm — the same as the WPWO equivalent since the gear pair is identical. The hollow bore output shaft may have a slightly lower torque rating than the solid shaft equivalent for very large bore sizes due to reduced shaft section modulus — contact our engineers for a calculation if this is a concern for your application.
