WPA Single Speed Worm Gear Reducer

The WPA worm gear reducer is a foot-mounted, single-speed cast iron gearbox delivering reliable high-torque output for conveyors, mixers, and general industrial drives. Available in 13 sizes (40–250 mm) with ratios 1/5 to 1/60 and five configurable shaft orientations, it is the proven workhorse of heavy-duty worm drive applications worldwide.

Description

WPA Single Speed Worm Gear Reducer — Dependable High-Torque Foot-Mounted Drive for Industrial Applications

In production environments where reliable speed reduction and maximum torque delivery must coexist, the WPA worm gear reducer stands as the benchmark general-purpose solution. Its precision worm-and-wheel set converts high-speed motor output into the steady, high-torque rotation demanded by belt conveyors, industrial mixers, grain augers, and process-drive systems — all housed within a rugged foot-mounted cast iron worm gearbox designed to withstand shock loading, dust ingress, and demanding 24/7 operation.

Available in 13 frame sizes (40–250 mm centre distance) with nine standard reduction ratios (1/5 to 1/60), the WPA single-speed worm gearbox covers output torques from 17 Nm up to 2,371 Nm. Five configurable shaft-direction positions (A–E) mean the unit adapts to your machine layout — not the reverse. Learn about Ever-power or request a free selection guide.

Worm Shaft 20CrMnTi carburised & ground, ≥58 HRC surface hardness
Worm Wheel ZCuSn10Pb1 tin-bronze rim, ductile iron hub
Bearings C3 deep-groove ball bearings; tapered roller on output (large sizes)
Seals Double-lip NBR oil seals on all shaft exits
Lubrication Splash oil bath; N220–N320 mineral or synthetic gear oil
Shaft Positions 5 configurable orientations: A, B, C, D, E

✅ Key Features & Benefits

️ Rugged Cast Iron Housing

The FC25 grey cast iron enclosure delivers outstanding impact resistance and vibration damping — essential for mining conveyors, aggregate plants, and any duty subject to shock loading. Ribbed side panels provide natural convection cooling, maintaining safe oil temperatures during 24/7 continuous operation. Keywords: heavy-duty cast iron gearbox, rugged worm drive housing.

⚙️ Precision Worm & Wheel Set

Ground-tooth worm shaft mates with ZCuSn10Pb1 bronze wheel to ISO 1328 Grade 7 tolerances, delivering smooth, low-noise power transmission (≤72 dB(A) at rated load). Transmission efficiency of 60–90% depending on ratio, with self-locking available at ratios 1/30 and above. Keywords: precision worm gear reducer, low-noise worm gearbox.

Five-Way Shaft Flexibility

Standard positions A through E accommodate virtually any drive-train layout, simplifying integration into new designs and retrofits without structural modification — reducing coupling components and installation time significantly.

Wide Size & Ratio Coverage

13 frame sizes (40–250 mm) and 9 ratios (1/5–1/60) deliver output torques from 17 Nm to 2,371 Nm at 1500 r/min input, covering the full spectrum of light-to-heavy industrial speed-reduction needs in one standardised family.

Sealed & Low-Maintenance

Double-lip NBR seals prevent leakage and contamination. Splash lubrication requires no external pump. After the 100-hour initial oil change, maintenance intervals extend to 2,500 operating hours — ideal for remote or difficult-to-access installations.

⚡ High Cantilever Load Capacity

Generously spaced output shaft bearings provide high radial and axial load capacity, allowing direct sprocket, pulley, or coupling mounting without an external bearing plummer block — reducing cost and footprint.

Industry Applications

The WPA single-speed worm gear reducer excels wherever foot-mounted, compact, high-torque speed reduction is required:

⚙️

Belt Conveyor SystemsMining, quarrying and bulk material handling lines requiring continuous, reliable torque for uninterrupted production.

Industrial Mixers & AgitatorsChemical, food and paint mixing vessels requiring steady low-speed, high-torque drive for extended batch cycles.

Agricultural MachineryGrain augers, seed spreaders, irrigation pump drives and harvester auxiliary systems.

Water & Wastewater TreatmentSludge scrapers, clarifier drives and rotary screens leveraging the WPA’s self-locking capability at high reduction ratios.

Construction EquipmentConcrete mixers, block-making lines and building material conveyors benefiting from the rugged housing.

Textile & Printing MachineryFabric winding, roller drives and printing press feed mechanisms where smooth speed reduction prevents registration errors.

Quality Control & Certification

ISO 9001:2015 & CE

Every WPA reducer is manufactured under ISO 9001:2015 quality management. CE Declaration of Conformity issued per shipment — compliant with EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and Australian market entry requirements.

Pre-Shipment Testing

Three-stage inspection: (1) Noise & vibration test at rated load (≤72 dB(A)); (2) Oil-seal leak test — 30-minute pressurised run; (3) Torque output verification against published specification data.

Material Traceability

Housing: FC25 cast iron (≥250 MPa tensile). Worm: 20CrMnTi (≥58 HRC surface). Wheel rim: ZCuSn10Pb1 tin-bronze. Full material mill certificates available on request.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What reduction ratios are available for the WPA series?

Nine standard ratios: 1/5, 1/10, 1/15, 1/20, 1/25, 1/30, 1/40, 1/50, and 1/60. Custom ratios can be engineered for large OEM orders — contact our team to discuss feasibility.

How do I select the correct WPA frame size?

Calculate your required output torque (T = Load × Lever arm), apply service factor corrections for temperature (a₁) and duty cycle (a₂), then use P = T × n₂ ÷ (9550 × η) to find required input power. Cross-reference against the WP power and torque table. Our engineers offer free selection assistance.

What lubricant should I use in a WPA gearbox?

For ambient temperatures 15–60°C and worm shaft speeds 750–2000 r/min, ISO VG 320 mineral oil is standard. For higher temperatures (40–65°C), use ISO VG 460 or synthetic PG 460. Fill to the oil-sight glass centre mark. Change at 100 h first service, then every 2,500 hours.

Can the WPA be mounted vertically or at an angle?

The WPA is designed for horizontal foot-mount installation. The five shaft-direction options (A–E) refer to input/output shaft relative positions, not housing orientation. Vertical or inclined mounting is possible but requires adjusted oil-fill level — contact us for position-specific guidance.

Is the WPA gearbox self-locking?

At ratios of 1/30 and above, the worm lead angle typically falls below the friction angle, producing self-locking behaviour. This is not guaranteed under dynamic conditions or with synthetic lubricants. For safety-critical holding applications, always incorporate a dedicated mechanical brake as a redundant measure.
