WPX Dual Output Shaft Worm Gear Reducer — Synchronised Two-Point Power Distribution from a Single Motor
When a single motor must drive two work points simultaneously — both ends of a roller conveyor, twin cutting heads, or bilateral feed rolls on a textile or printing machine — the conventional solution involves a gearbox plus chain/belt drives with the associated alignment complexity. The WPX dual output shaft worm gear reducer eliminates this complexity by delivering synchronised torque directly from both sides of the worm wheel shaft within a single cast iron double-output worm drive housing.
With output shafts protruding from both ends of the worm wheel bore, the WPX ensures zero speed differential between the two drive points — a critical requirement where mismatched speeds cause product damage, skewing, or registration errors. Available in sizes 40–250 mm, ratios 1/5 to 1/60, and three shaft-direction configurations (A, B, C). Explore our full Ever-power product range or request a quotation.

Product Structure — Dual Output Shaft Design

The WPX extends the worm wheel shaft through both sides of the housing, creating two mechanically coupled output shafts rotating at identical speed. The wider housing incorporates two additional bearing bores — one each side of the worm wheel — providing full support under unequal loading conditions.
| Output Shafts | Two synchronised solid shafts, one each side of worm wheel |
| Synchronisation | Mechanically locked — zero speed differential guaranteed |
| Housing | FC25 cast iron, wider body vs WPA to house dual bearing sets |
| Shaft Positions | 3 configurations: A, B, C |
| Bearings | Four-bearing support — two on worm wheel shaft, two on worm shaft |
| Lubrication | Splash oil bath; slightly higher oil capacity than WPA due to wider body |
✅ Key Features & Benefits
Perfect Bilateral Synchronisation
Both outputs are rigidly keyed to the same worm wheel shaft — speed equality is guaranteed by mechanical constraint, eliminating closed-loop controls, servo corrections, or differential mechanisms. Keywords: synchronised dual shaft gearbox, zero-differential worm drive.
Reduced Machine Complexity & Cost
Replacing a single-output gearbox plus chain/belt synchronisation with one WPX unit eliminates sprockets, tensioners, chains, and associated maintenance — reducing both bill-of-materials cost and the frequency of chain/belt replacements significantly.
Rugged Cast Iron Body for Industrial Duty
FC25 grey cast iron housing provides vibration damping and impact resistance essential for textile, printing, and packaging machinery subject to high-frequency start-stop cycles and variable loads.
Precision Worm Pair for Low-Noise Operation
Ground worm and ZCuSn10Pb1 bronze wheel deliver ≤72 dB(A) at rated load — important in textile mills and print shops where operator noise exposure must be controlled. Efficiency up to 90% at 1/5 ratio.
Wide Frame Size & Ratio Choice
13 frame sizes (40–250 mm) and 9 ratios (1/5–1/60) allow precise sizing for the required speed and torque, avoiding the energy waste and weight penalty of oversized gearboxes.
Fully Sealed with Long Maintenance Intervals
Double-lip seals on all four shaft exits (two output + one input) prevent oil ingress and egress. After the 100-hour initial service, oil changes are required every 2,500 hours — minimising downtime on high-value production lines.
Industry Applications
The WPX is the preferred dual output worm gearbox for machinery requiring bilateral drive from a single motor:
Textile Winding MachinesFabric and yarn winding frames where both ends of the winding shaft must turn at identical speed to prevent uneven tension and web breakage.
Offset Printing PressesPrint roll and impression cylinder auxiliary drives where bilateral synchronisation prevents ink smear, misregistration, and substrate wrinkle.
Twin-End Roller ConveyorsWide live-roller and gravity conveyor sections in warehousing, automotive, and appliance assembly plants requiring consistent end-to-end roll speed.
Paper & Converting LinesSlitter, rewinder, and laminator drives in paper, film, and foil converting where symmetric tension control across the web width is critical to product quality.
Food Processing LinesDual-strand sorting conveyors, twin-screw blenders, and packaging machine feed rollers requiring synchronised bilateral drive in hygienic environments.
Metal Processing LinesWire drawing dual-capstan drives and strip leveller rolls where exact speed matching prevents material twist and edge wave defects.
Quality Control & Certification
ISO 9001:2015 & CE
Full ISO 9001:2015 QMS with CE Declaration of Conformity per shipment — compliant with EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and Australian/NZ market entry requirements.
Dual-Shaft Synchronisation Test
WPX units are verified for output shaft run-out and symmetry using dial gauges at both shaft ends. Maximum permitted run-out: ≤0.05 mm TIR. Torque balance verified during the 30-minute run-in test.
Material Standards
Housing: FC25 cast iron. Worm: 20CrMnTi (≥58 HRC). Both output shaft ends machined from the same billet and heat-treated together to ensure matched mechanical properties and identical keyway geometry.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Can different loads be applied to each output shaft of the WPX?
Yes, within limits. Both output shafts rotate at the same speed but can carry different torque loads. The combined output torque from both shafts must not exceed the rated output torque for the selected frame size and ratio. Significantly unequal loading may affect bearing life — contact our engineers for an assessment.
Can one output shaft of the WPX be left unused?
Technically yes — one shaft can be capped. However, this offers no practical advantage over the standard WPA single-output gearbox and results in excess overhang load on the active output bearing. We recommend using WPA for single-output applications and WPX exclusively for dual-output use.
Are the two output shaft extensions the same length on the WPX?
By default, the WPX is supplied with equal-length extensions (E₁ = E₂) per the specification table. Asymmetric extensions can be supplied as a custom option for OEM customers who require the gearbox offset from the machine centreline. Contact us for a quotation.
What input shaft configurations are available for the WPX?
Three shaft-direction configurations (A, B, C) govern the orientation of the worm input shaft relative to the worm wheel output shafts. Configuration A has the input protruding from one end, B from the opposite end, and C from above. Refer to the specification sheet or request a drawing from our team.
What is the maximum output torque of the WPX?
Output torque depends on frame size and ratio. At 1500 r/min input, size 250 delivers up to approximately 2,371 Nm combined output torque — split between both output shaft ends. Refer to the WP series power and torque table, or contact us for a free selection calculation for your specific application.
