✅ Key Features & Benefits
Vertical Output — No Right-Angle Adapter Required
The WPWV delivers its output shaft vertically from a horizontal worm gear set in a single compact housing — no separate right-angle bevel gear adapter, no additional coupling, no extra alignment interface. This saves height, weight, and mechanical complexity in pump station and vessel agitator top-entry drives. Keywords: vertical output universal worm reducer, pump drive worm gearbox flange mount.
Correct Oil Lubrication in Vertical Position
The WPWV oil system is configured for vertical operation — ensuring correct gear mesh and bearing immersion when the unit is in its normal upright operating position. A horizontal gearbox used vertically without proper reconfiguration runs with inadequate lubrication at the high gear end, leading to accelerated wear.
Self-Locking Prevents Pump and Agitator Back-Drive
At ratios of 1/30 and above, the WPWV self-locks under static conditions — preventing pump back-spinning, agitator gravity reversal, and vertical conveyor carrier slide-back when the motor is de-energised. This eliminates the need for a check valve or shaft brake in many pump and agitator applications.
Flange Mounting Face for Direct Pump/Vessel Connection
The WPWV flat flange mounting face bolts directly to standard pump head flanges, vessel top nozzle plates, and vertical machine mounting structures — without adapter plates. This makes installation straightforward and provides a rigid, leak-free mechanical interface between the gearbox and the driven equipment structure.
Smooth Quiet Drive for Agitator Applications
The precision gear pair (≤72 dB(A)) delivers smooth, vibration-free output essential for vessel agitator applications where gear-induced vibration could affect mixing quality, fluid stability, or the integrity of fragile process materials.
12 Sizes for All Vertical Drive Requirements
Twelve sizes from 40 to 250 mm cover vertical pump drives from small agricultural irrigation pumps (size 40) to large industrial pump station drives (size 250) — all from a single standardised vertical flange-mount product.
Industry Applications
The WPWV is the compact vertical drive solution for pump stations, vessel agitators, and vertical process equipment across all industries:

⭐ Customer Reviews
“We use WPWV units as the vertical drive head on our irrigation pump stations. The flange mount sits directly on the pump head coupling housing and the vertical output shaft connects straight to the pump — no right-angle adapter, no coupling above the gearbox. Self-locking at 1/40 prevents back-spin when the system pressure pushes back. Very compact and clean installation.”
Anthony W., Irrigation Engineer
Agricultural Irrigation Equipment, South Australia, Australia
“We integrate WPWV into our top-entry chemical vessel agitator drives. The vertical flange mount directly to the vessel top nozzle keeps the drive assembly very compact above the vessel, and the self-locking prevents agitator reverse rotation on process pressure. The vertical run test documentation was a useful quality record for our equipment file. Excellent product.”

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between WPWV and WPWT?
Both WPWV and WPWT are specialised mounting variants sharing the same specification table. The WPWV is configured for vertical output — output shaft pointing downward for pump and agitator top-entry drives — with three shaft-direction positions (A–C). The WPWT is configured for tilted/inclined mounting — for inclined conveyor and quarry equipment drives — with five shaft-direction positions (A–E). Select WPWV for vertical downward output; select WPWT for inclined mounting.
How does the WPWV flange connect to a pump head?
The WPWV flat flange mounting face bolts directly to the pump coupling housing or pump head adapter plate. The flange face is machined to ≤0.05 mm flatness, ensuring full face contact without shimming. Confirm the pump head bolt pattern matches the WPWV flange hole pattern for your size — contact us with your pump head drawing for a compatibility check if required.
What is the maximum pump power the WPWV can drive?
At 1500 r/min input, size 250 at ratio 1/60 delivers approximately 2,371 Nm — sufficient to drive centrifugal pumps, progressive cavity pumps, and gear pumps up to very large capacities depending on the pump head pressure and speed requirements. Contact our engineers with your pump rated torque and required speed for a precise selection.
Can the WPWV be used for agitator drives where the impeller creates upward axial thrust?
Yes — the WPWV output shaft bearings are selected for the downward gravity load plus any upward thrust from the agitator impeller. For high-thrust impeller configurations (e.g. axial flow impellers running upward), contact us with the impeller thrust specification for a bearing life verification.
What lubricant should be used in the WPWV for food or brewing vessel applications?
For food and brewing vessel agitator applications, specify NSF H1 registered food-grade gear oil — available as a factory-fill option. Standard ISO VG 320 mineral oil is not food-grade. Food-grade PAO or PG synthetic oils are available with factory-fill on request, and also provide better thermal stability and longer drain intervals than mineral oil.
